LiFi Technology and the EdisonReport
LiFi is the paradigm-shifting wireless technology which allows communication between devices using light to transit data. We are honored to welcome Randy Reid whose company, LumEfficient, received a 2018 Lightfair Innovation Award for LiFi technology. Randy will also discuss the EdisonReport, which he has published since 1998.
Randy Reid has helped shape the lighting market over the past three decades. Reid began his career in 1983 with GE Lighting where he worked in various capacities, including the National Sales Manager for Crescent Electric, one of GE’s largest Electrical Distributors. In 2002, he founded the US Division of Metrolight, an Israeli-based startup. In 2009, Reid joined LUXIM, at the time a Silicon Valley startup, in the
position of Vice President, Marketing. LUXIM was sold in 2014 to LUMA Group, and Reid currently serves as the VP of Sales and Marketing. Most recently, Reid launched a new company, LumEfficient to quickly increase the market penetration of LUMA’s LED products.
Further, Mr. Reid was a member of the LIGHTFAIR Management Committee, 2001-2003 and served on the LIGHTFAIR Advisory Committee in 2006. Mr. Reid was chairman for the IES Annual Conference in 2010 and received the President’s Award in 2011. Reid recently served as the IES Section President for Nashville and is a member of the Designers Lighting Forum in New York City. In May of 2018, Reid’s company, LumEfficient, was one of four companies to receive a LIGHTFAIR Innovation Award. This award was given for LiFi technology, which Reid demonstrated during the show.
Since 1998, Mr. Reid has published the EdisonReport, a site for news and information in the lighting industry. EdisonReport’s tag line is “The Business of Lighting,” and his company ‘breaks’ several of the important news stories in the lighting industry. EdisonReport sponsors many lighting events including Light + Building in Frankfurt, LEDucation and IES Lumen Awards in New York, as well as Boston Lights.
